As anyone who is on social media knows, hot girl walks have become a *hot* topic. Personally, I started really getting into walking about 3/4 years ago when I moved to college without a car. I was kinda forced to walk. And at first, I wasn’t the biggest fan. Walking in Florida heat is no joke especially when you aren’t used to the humidity. But after a while, I started loving my walks. Walking to class, walking to work, walking to the farmers market, or walking downtown. I LOVED it. No one could convince me not to walk somewhere. Of course, I was usually a sweaty mess when I made it to my destination so that was never fun. But there’s nothing A/C (and some perfume in your bag) can’t fix.

Now that the term “Hot girl walk” has become so popular, everyone loves walking. And I can’t blame them! Seeing everyone walk actually made me start walking even more (which was kind of hard to do). I started waking up at 6am to walk with the sunrise and I would walk for hours at night. So today, I want to talk about the pros (and cons) that I have personally noticed and some facts from the experts.

Pros

Of course we have to start with the pros.

My Pros

When I walk I use the time to think or listen to music/podcasts. This has REALLY helped me through some things. Thinking during my walks has helped me come to terms with moving to a new state, *almost* failing classes, and many MANY other things. Heck, I’ve even bawled my eyes out on more than one occasion. The time that you have to reflect when you’re on a hot girl walk is like no other. You have no distractions such as your phone or TV. Just you and your thoughts.

I like my walks alone, but I can’t say that there isn’t a benefit to walking with someone else. It’s really nice to talk through your thoughts with a friend and get other opinions while working out. Your mind and your body are moving.

Other than getting some time to reflect, hot girl walks are a perfect low-impact workout. Get some comfy shoes and a water bottle and you’re set to walk for hours. I can’t say that I noticed a huge impact on my weight since I started walking more, but I do feel better. On days where I miss my walk, I feel sluggish. Hot girl walks are a great way to get in a little *free* exercise without straining your body or sweating to much (unless you live in a hot place). I’ve also noticed that I have been able to walk more and faster since I started going on regular hot girl walks. This might just be because I have long legs or I hate slow walkers, but I walk SO fast now. And some days I feel like I could walk for hours on end and never stop.

Now that I’ve shared all my pros, let’s check in with the experts.

The Experts Pros

Popular pros to walking include weight loss, cardiovascular health increase, and increased energy levels. Even your mood, memory, sleep, immune system, and stress levels can be improved through regular walking. According to mayo clinic, the faster, more often, and further you walk the better! Sounds like being a fast walker is a win!! Doing intervals of fast and leisure walking can actually increase the benefits of your hot girl walk as well (Walk your way to fitness 2024). Walking is a great aerobic activity that can also build your endurance and help your joints by strengthening them.

Related to your immune system, research has also found that hot girl walks can reduce your risk of breast cancer if you walk 7+ hours a week (5 surprising benefits of walking 2023). The risk of Alzheimer’s can also be lowered by those who walk more than 1/4 mile everyday (12 benefits of walking: Arthritis foundation). So get your shoes on people!

Now this one may or may not be a pro depending on your stance. Your hot girl walk could be deterring you from a sweet treat according to Harvard health. Uh oh. I love me a sweet treat, so I don’t think this ones true for me. But research has confirmed that walking just 15 minutes can reduce cravings of sugary treats (5 surprising benefits of walking 2023).

All of these benefits can combine to lead to a longer and healthier life. Maybe even happier! Although, I don’t know about that sweet treat one….

Cons

Alright, now that we know all about the good, let’s look at the bad of a hot girl walk.

My Cons

Now, listen. I know that we just covered how walking can be good for your joints and endurance, but I’ll be honest: sometimes, it doesn’t feel like it. Some days my hips and knees are so sore. And don’t get me started on their popping! I feel like this has all gotten worse as I’ve started walking more. This could be totally unrelated or could be a technique thing. But it’s definitely a con for me.

Of course, walking is not always practical. Some places are just not built for walking. Sidewalks end randomly and streets may not have crosswalks. But once you find a place to walk consistently, it’s totally worth it.

Sweating is another con for me. When I’m walking outside, it’s like I just jumped in a pool. Now this isn’t the biggest con because I’ve found ways around it. Walking in the early morning or at night when it starts to cool off. But I don’t have many cons, so I grabbing at anything here!

I love my hot girl walks too much. I can’t think of any other cons.

The Experts Cons

I’ll be honest, there isn’t much from the experts either. The main topics include pushing yourself too hard and causing fatigue, appetite loss, irritability, soreness, and increased risk of colds (Bumgardner, 2024). A lot of these cons are just from not knowing your limits. Remember to start slow, wear proper shoes, and take care of yourself! A hot girl walk can’t be a hot girl walk if you get hurt.

Of course, there is also the issue that some people may not see the results they wish. Like I mentioned above, I haven’t noticed any significant weight loss but some have. It all depends on your body and how much you walk.

Conclusion

All in all I love my hot girl walks. They make me happier and allow me to think things through. You can walk on the sidewalk, the beach, in the woods. Walk to work, walk to the store, or walk to a restaurant. Wherever you walk, the benefits will outweigh the cons.

Whenever you can, get out and walk! Enjoy the fresh air and reduce your screen time! I promise you it will be worth it. And if you have a dog, they will love it, too!
